FAQ
If something isn’t covered here, ask us at any event. We like hearing from you.
ASOBI is a curated lifestyle and experiences community for people who want to make more of life beyond work. We bring people together through sport, fitness, adventure, wellness and social experiences, starting with well-organised sporting events.
ASOBI (遊び) is Japanese for “play”: doing something simply because you enjoy it. Our tagline sums it up: good people, great play.
We are currently running experiences in Hyderabad, and will add more cities as the community grows.
Today you can play in pickleball, badminton and table tennis tournaments and social games. Fitness (Move), adventure (Explore), wellness (Well) and social evenings (Gather) are coming next.
An independent community. Not affiliated with or endorsed by any IIT or IIM.
ASOBI is for active, curious people who value good company. Our founding community starts with verified IIT and IIM alumni, and we will open it up as the community grows. You must be 18 or older.
The fastest way is a one-time code sent to your institute alumni email, which verifies you instantly. You can also upload a degree certificate or alumni card, or be referred by two verified members; our team reviews these within 48 hours.
Creating a profile and joining the community is free. Each experience has its own fee, shown clearly before you register.
Yes. Every event has divisions by level, from first-timers to seasoned players, so you will always have matches that are fun to play.
Most tournaments start with small groups, so everyone plays at least three matches, followed by knockouts. Formats, schedules and rules are published on each event page before you register.
Yes. You can invite a verified member or share an invite link, and each of you can pay your own half of the entry fee.

Your own racquet or paddle, sports shoes and water. Balls and shuttles are provided unless the event page says otherwise.
The ASOBI Rating is a skill rating based on the Glicko-2 system. It starts from the level you choose, moves after every rated match based on who you played and how decisively, and becomes more certain the more you play.
After five rated matches. You stay listed while you have played in the last 180 days, and you can hide yourself from leaderboards in your privacy settings.
Leaderboards rank by a conservative rating that also accounts for how certain we are about each player. Steady, regular play ranks higher than a few lucky results.
Your name, profile picture, sports, ratings and results. Your email and phone number are never shown. Age, company and LinkedIn appear only if you choose to show them, and you can make your profile members-only or private.
